Etsy listing for custom horsehair bracelets here -->[link]
A pair of custom horsehair bracelets for an Etsy customer, paired with two African porcupine quill hairsticks. The customer requested that the bracelets match the hairsticks, since one was to be paired with each as gifts.
The hair for these bracelets was collected from a paint gelding named Two-chip and my own gelding Buck. Two-chip came to the shelter incredibly emaciated and covered in rope burns. He was one of my favorite horses - gentle and sweet! - and he has since been adopted into a loving forever home. His new name is Chu-chip, a Native American word for deer spirit! Buck is my own gelding - fat, sassy, sometimes rude and always a delight.
All of my horsehair items are handmade by me using horsehair gathered from animals encountered through my work in the animal welfare field. Only a small amount is taken from each horse during the normal grooming process. Each animal is an individual who's memory lives on in the items made from their hair, even after the animal has passed through my life. All my horsehair is cruelty-free, is not a by-product of the equine slaughter industry and is vegetarian/vegan friendly.
For each purchase of a horsehair bracelet, $5 will be donated to Team Kareem, an animal welfare group dedicated to helping the pyramid horses, donkeys and camels of Cairo, Egypt. If you aren't familiar with their work I recommend that you visit their website at [link]
